Introduction top

A search on eating disorders yields many hits. The great public and media interest in anorexia and bulimia nervosa is at least partly accountable for this. However the number of good sites is limited. Most websites provide information for the general public of very mixed quality. Sites specifically for care givers and professionals are (almost) not to be found. The links provided here reflect this observation. As soon as this changes, you will find links to the relevant sites on the subject.

  • Factsheet Eating Disorders

    The authoritive National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) published a 'factsheet' Eating Disorders: Facts about Eating Disorders and the Search for Solution. This document can be downloaded as PDF from their site.

  • Binge Eating Disorders

    Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is one of the new diagnoses in DSM-IV. This site of the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) provides the ‘official' information on BED.

  • Eating Disorders Work Group

    The Eating Disorders Work Group is chaired by B. Timothy Walsh, M.D. and is composed of 10 members (biosketches and disclosure information for each Work Group member).

  • Proposed revisions of eating disorders criteria

    Among the work group’s proposals is the recommendation that binge eating disorder be recognized as a free-standing diagnosis apart from the Appendix. Also, it is being recommended that the Eating Disorders category be renamed Eating and Feeding Disorders to reflect the proposal for inclusion of feeding disorders.The amenorrhea criterion for anorexia nervosa has been removed.
