    The only journal devoted exclusively to ECT, published four times a year.   Since its first publication in1985, it has usually scooped the most recent research results. The site provides a table of contents for the issues published in the last two years.

    An excellent site for keeping up with the latest publications.  If you click on All news, then Select the channel and then a topic, such as depression, anxiety or psychiatry other, you will get a list of recent articles with the journal and date of publication. You can then click on an article to read it in its entirety. You can also set up your own page preferences.

    The site is sponsored by various pharmaceutical industries and you are besieged by advertisements. The articles are from peer reviewed journals and not more than 60% are about the medication.  You can however click on New drugs for all of the recent registrations of medications in various countries. Or you can just ignore that information.

  • FreeMedicalJournals: BMJ en NEJM

    On this site you will find links to, among others, the British Medical Journal (BMJ, under Free journals) and the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM, under Free one to six months after publication).

  • General Hospital Psychiatry

  • International Journal of Forensic Mental Health

    This journal, first published in the spring of 2002, is available online from the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services (IAFMHS, see also Professional associations). The objective is to publish two issues a year. Publication is by peer review. It has an international editorial board which emphasizes empirical research as well as validation and international comparative research with forensic psychiatric patients, but also case studies, descriptions of forensic programmes and services, book reviews and discussion of new legislation. It seeks in particular articles which compare the practice and legislation in different countries, such as treatment, accountability, and risk evaluation.

    The  editorial director Stephen D. Hart  and Ronald Roesch,  both professors  at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Articles should be addressed to Prof. Roesch and should follow guidelines in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association APA.

  • International Journal of Law & Psychiatry (IJLP)

    The official organ of the American International Academy of Law & Mental Health (IALMH, see also the topic Professional associations). it is published six times a year and has now been in existence 25 years.

    The table of contents of the various issues can be consulted free of charge. If your institution subscribes to the journal you can also download articles. If not, you can order articles (by providing your credit card information) but that is expensive!

  • Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy (ANZJFT)

    A number of articles are available online but this site is especially interesting for its many links.

  • Family Process

    One of the best-known family therapy publications. Its former editor-in-chief, Carol Anderson is also well-known, particularly for her family interventions in schizophrenia. The site provides many links. You can search for articles and abstracts by keyword, author, or sentence fragment.  Every month there is also an important article that can be discussed online.

  • Journal of Family Psychology

    A journal of the American Psychological Association (APA). Provides tables of contents, abstracts, and research articles, of which many important ones can be downloaded in their entirety. Via Search the Journals (top right) and Journals ( click on) you will discover a treasure of other psychology publications. For example, a great deal of information is published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

  • Journal of Family Psychotherapy

    Information about and table of contents from this official organ of the International Family Therapy Association (IFTA, see also Associations and institutes, international).

  • Journal of Family Therapy

    Official organ of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK (AFT, see also Associations and institutes: International). Subscribers can consult the online edition.   • The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism

    Only a few professional publications specifically about sexuality provide free access to their content.  That is a pity, because the user is then dependent on more general resources.  Endocrinological publications are one place to find specifically medical studies about sexuality.  The pre-eminent Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism makes articles available free of charge a few months after first publication.  Specific subjects can be searched by keyword, for example sexual maturity and menopausal disorders.

More about the Science Citation Index (SCI)top

The information about journal Internet sites in The Top 25 Psychiatric and The Top 10 Medical Journals sections is based on the Science Citation Index.

Scientific journals are assigned an impact factor.  It is calculated from the number of times a journal is cited in scientific articles.  An American company keeps detailed records and publishes the Science Citation Index once a year with the impact factor for many journals.  The assumption is that the more often a publication is cited, the more impact that journal has on science.

Source: Journal Citation Reports �€� Science Edition; IV Subject Category Listing.  The most recent report is for 2007. The sequence varies from year to year, though the Archives has been number one for many years.

Several neurodegenerative diseases are linked to inflammation. Interleukine 1β and TNF-α-related-apoptose-inducing ligand (TRAIL), and other cytokines are thought to be involved in the aetiology of Alzheimer's disease. This is also true for amyloid β which itself has inflammatory effects. The progression of neurodegeneration in neurodegenerative diseases is further promoted by systemic inflammation. In a complex manner physical activity is linked to immunity and inflammation.
