Personality disorders

Colophon

Introduction top

A site about personality disorders is soon out of date.  The subject is so broad that choices about what subjects and approaches to include must be made from the sites, the enormous number of which grows by the day.

Several issues are of a specific importance.  We believe that not just the professional perspective must be considered, but also that of patients and those close to them. There are in fact many interesting sites written for and by patients.  People with personality disorders often evoke strong reactions from their environment and react strongly to the environment.

Further we believe that it is important to consider not only the categorical approach of the DSM-IV but also personality dimensions.  These are currently the focus of much scientific interest.

Finally, as is often the case with 'personality disorders,'  borderline personality disorder receives disproportionate attention.
