PN van Harten

Peter van Harten, MD, PhD completed his studies in psychiatry at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, under Prof. R.J. van den Bosch and was board certified in 1989. He received his PhD in 1998 at the University of Utrecht, under the auspices of Prof. R.S. Kahn and Prof. J.M. van Ree with a dissertation titled 'Movement disorders associated with antipsychotics.'

Between 1990 and 1995 he worked as a psychiatrist at the Dr. David Capriles Clinic on Curacao (Netherlands Antilles) and also as a consultant for children with physical and mental handicaps, the Mgr. Verriet Institute, as consultant for Saint Maarten, and advisor to the court.

He has been director of residency training since 1995, first at the Mondrian Group in Heerlen and at the Symfora Group in Amersfoort since 1998. He became editor-in-chief of the Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie (the Flemish-Dutch Journal of Psychiatry) in 2003 and of  www.psychiatrienet.nl since its founding in 2000.

He is the author of three monographs on movement disorders and has published numerous articles in international publications about the epidemiology and clinical aspects of movement disorders. He also gives workshops on Movement Disorders in Psychiatry, Evidence-Based Medicine, and How to Write an Article.
