H.W. Hoek
Hans Wijbrand Hoek, MD, PhD received his PhD in 1987 from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, under the direction of Professor R. Giel, MD, with a dissertation about psychiatric research with chronic psychiatric patients. He studied psychiatry at the University of Groningen under Prof. R.J. van den Bosch, MD. He is a board certified as psychiatrist (1990), an epidemiologist, and group psychotherapist.
He is director of residency training at the Parnassia Group in The Hague, as well as adjunct professor of epidemiology at Columbia University in New York and professor of psychiatry at the University of Groningen.
He is a member of the DSM-V Work Group on Eating Disorders. He is past president of the Eating Disorders Research Society and past chairman of the of the Steering Group on Eating Disorder set up by the Dutch Ministry of Health, as well as consultant to the World Health Organization.
Wijbrand Hoek has published extensively, particularly in the fields of psychosis and eating disorders. He is a member of the editorial boards of three journals.
